A Summer That Feels Like Home @torja_toronto_japan A Summer That Feels Like Home @torja_toronto_japan
On a warm afternoon in Toronto, the sound of taiko drums begins to echo.
At JCCC’s Natsu Matsuri and Bon Odori, yukata flutter and strangers dance in a shared rhythm. Even those who’ve never lived a summer in Japan seem to know the steps. Visitors sip Okinawan beer, enjoy Japanese street food, and explore handcrafted goods. From Japan to Toronto,
this summer festival brings people together—with culture, kindness, and the feeling of home.

At a special event in Canada, “Reflecting on War through Hiroshima and Nagasaki,” Hiroshima atomic bomb survivor and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Setsuko Thurlow appeared as a guest speaker. For decades, she has dedicated her life to telling the world about the horrors of nuclear weapons through her own story.
She always carries with her a cloth embroidered with the names of 351 classmates and teachers—lives lost in the bombing. Now, it is our turn to listen, to remember, and to act—for a world without nuclear weapons.
