Webtoons are a type of digital comic that was originated in South Korea. Webtoons are popularized in North America due to it can be easily read on smart phones. Ever since the creation of webtoon have emerged, the print publication of comics has decreased because the online material is cheaper to produce and it reaches a larger number of audience.
Lil Char and the Gang was an English webtoon series illustrated by Nekoama.The serioes has accumulated over 80 thousand subscribers and 7.8 million views worldwide. On the webtoons website the author said that this is a “fancomic series about the lives of three best friends and their adventures. Buh”. This series is a pokémon parody using squirtle, bulbasaur and charmander as main characters and portray their lifestyle without sticking with the traditional Pokémon comic storyline.
In the author’s FAQ’s page, Nekoama explained that the series is about “Lil Char is a ‘slice of life’ childhood style comic, but all the characters are based off of the Pokémon characters. They had adventures big and small that are unique due to their abilities but still ring out true of childhood!”.
The whole series begin with the doodle lover Nekoama, and the author confess that at first thte story only surround Charzard and Charmander. Only later that she found joy drawing Quirtle and Bulbasaur together that those characters became one of the mains.
Everyone’s immediate favorite character is baby Bulbasaur, which can only mouth the word “buh”. The author said that is because Bub is much younger than the Char and Squirtle but he hangs out with the two a lot because they are neighbors, adding that Char and Squirtle are around 6 to 7 years old while Bubasaur is more of the 3 to 4 age range. The author emphasized that “they all have fun regardless of the age gap or language difference.”
There are other Webtoons, other than this cutesy type ones. There is this really popular webtoon that gets repost by 9gag called “My Giant Nerd Boyfriend” have humorous scenes that people who are dating can definitely relate. Or there are others romantic Webtoons about girls being chased by boys like the series called “I Love You too”. This series, according to the summary on the Webtoon website, is a about a girl who “dogged by pain and misfortune from th every beginning, Shin-Ae decides she wants nothing to do with people nor anything to do with romance. Although content with her unsocial, boring, loveless existence, her lifestyle is challenged after she ruins an unsuspecting strangers’ clothes.” I believe a smart mind like yours already know what will happen next in the series.
On a side note, according to my unofficially observation, I feel like people who read comics or manga have the ability to read faster than people like me who only read words.
