I can dare say everyone wants a man like Yip Man – so kind and caring yet so fierce and strong. And what is better than actually having Donnie Yen Ji-dan as a partner?
Yen was born in Guangzhou, China. He moved to Hong Kong when he was 2 and then Boston when he was 11. He is one of the most popular film stars in Asia of the early 2000s. He is also one of the highest paid actor in Asia. Yen has displayed skill in an array of martial arts, being well-versed in Tai Chi, Boxing, Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do, Hapkido, Taekwondo, Karate, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Wing Chun, and Wushu. He is so talented and good looking that you can hardly find another one as great as him.
He first started working in the industry in 1984. He continued to work between the United States and Asia throughout the years. Recently, Ip Man 4 released and the first weekend, just the China box office, has already recorded $24.2 million. However, Yen told South China Morning Post that Ip Man 4 will be his final kung fu film.
He told South China Morning Post that “As an actor and filmmaker, I have made so many movies, some that people love and some that people don’t love. On this challenging road, I filmed a number of kung fu films that are about the same. As an actor, you must keep going forward. This is something that I must do in life I must keep exploring to grow.” Don’t we love a man that keeps on improving himself despite the fact that he is already 56.
Unfortunately, like all good men in the world, Yen is happily married to Cissy Wang in 2003. He has three children now and living as a happy family.
We will sure miss a good action actor but we wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
