Forever a Hero: The Double Mazinger

Yesterday, my Chogokin Soul Mazinger Z (Enhanced Version: Leather Evolution) finally arrived! 🎉
I can’t help but think many of my friends on Facebook must have picked it up as well.

I once mentioned that I tend to buy every new release of the original Gundam, but when it comes to the Mazinger series, my impulse to purchase is even stronger. Oh, and I have a soft spot for Zeta Gundam too—it’s hard to resist. 😄

It’s hard to believe that almost 30 years have passed since the release of GX-01 in October 1997. I’ve lost track of how many variations have been released since then—gold-plated versions, black editions, battle-damage variants—there have been so many. While I don’t chase every special edition, my collection has grown bigger than I realized. When I set them all up for display, even I was surprised at how many I’ve gathered over the years.

To be honest, I don’t own any of the Super Robot Chogokin Mazinger figures. And with the ongoing broadcast of Great Mazinger nearing its climax, I can’t help but remember the sheer thrill of that scene in episode 53 when Mazinger Z returns with its iconic theme song. That moment still gives me chills.

Looking at my display, I do feel a small void—the absence of Robot Junior. I wish Bandai would release one, even as a Premium Bandai exclusive.

So, that’s my Mazinger corner for today. No matter how many decades pass, Mazinger will always be a hero in my heart.
