JCCC Film Night 2026 『KOKUHO』  The film was screened at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, drawing approximately 450 attendees.  Ahead of the screening, the lobby came alive as Ozawa Canada presented a curated sake selection worthy of the film’s visual poetry and world, alongside Okinawa’s Orion Beer, widely loved in Toronto, and a lineup including Sho Chiku Bai Kyoto Junmai (Vintage), warm Jyosen sake, sparkling Mio, and Choya umeshu.  With the Academy Awards set for March 15, Japan’s breakout hit film has earned its first nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Tonight at the University of Toronto, we attended Tonight at the University of Toronto, we attended a talk and performance by RADWIMPS drummer Satoshi Yamaguchi.  After developing musician’s dystonia and facing years of struggle, he found his way back to music through research and technology.
His VXD performance and calm presence left a lasting sense of quiet inspiration.  Interview coming in TORJA April issue.

今夜はトロント大学で、RADWIMPSドラマー・山口智史さんの講演&パフォーマンスへ。  「ミュージシャンズ・ジストニア」により演奏が困難となり、約10年の“暗闇”を過ごした山口さん。そこから研究とテクノロジーという“光”に出会い、再び音楽へと歩み出す姿に、確かな力を感じました。  慶應義塾大学・藤井進也准教授との出会いも大きな転機。実はTORJAでも2017年、トロントで研究されていた藤井先生にインタビューさせていただいたご縁があります。  VXD(Voice Controlled Drum-set)による演奏では、声でリズムを紡ぐ姿と、山口さんの穏やかな表情が印象的で、会場はやさしい空気に包まれていました。
「The Past Can Be Changed」というタイトルにも、直訳を超えた意味と想いが、確かに伝わってきます。  深い余韻の残る時間。

Toronto-Bred Directors Earn Oscar Nominations for Toronto-Bred Directors Earn Oscar Nominations for Animated Feature  Two Toronto-raised female directors have been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. The nominees, Maggie Kang (KPop Demon Hunters) and Domee Shi (Elio), are both graduates of Sheridan College, one of Canada’s leading animation schools.  KPop Demon Hunters also earned a nomination for Best Original Song. Kang was born in Seoul and moved to Toronto in childhood. Shi, originally from Chongqing, China, immigrated to Canada at a young age, later joined Pixar, and previously won an Academy Award for the animated short Bao.  The nominations underscore the global impact of Canadian animation talent and highlight Sheridan College’s influential role in shaping the industry.
