Uniqlo’s UT Collection Teams Up with Artist Miranda July

UNIQLO, the Japanese apparel retailer is known for its affordable clothing and its collaboration with diverse artists and designers—to name a few, JW Anderson, Alexander Wang and Disney. Miranda July, a Los Angeles-based multi-talented film director, screenwriter, singer, actress, author and artist, launched collaborative T-shirts on March 18. The quirky t-shirts with prints like “EVERLASTING DOUBTS”, “NOT NOT FUNNY” and “IF YOU LIKE LIKE LIKE YOU’LL LOVE LOVE” are now available in stores in Canada and online.

July, known for her quirky works and her persona, defamiliarize things while showing partial understanding of objects and social constructs. There is a fundamental lack of understanding in traits which makes her works funny in an absurdist sense.

She is not only popular in the West but has a huge fan base in Japan. Her first novel First Bad Man won a ‘Twitter Literally Prize (Twitter Bungaku-sho)’ in Japan this year which was casted by votes of Twitter users. A group exhibition which she is a participant of, TOKYO ART BOOK FAIR: Ginza Edition is held for a month from March 8 in Tokyo.
